Game Design POL
Unit 1 - 3D Visual Design
Modular Design helps provide the overall design of the game. It creates assets and levels for the game which is the whole visual part of it. It is what also brings the players attention to play or buy the game, which also keeps them intrigued. Modular Design gives all of the coding a visual sight, hiding all of the numbers which can be a turn off for a player. It gives value to the game, a visual value which is a major selling point of a game.
Unit 2 - Production Management
I am the Level Designer for my team, this is important for designing the levels for the game. Level 1, 2, 3, etc. is created in my job, and is important for creating segments for players. Level designing keeps the player motivated through the game, progressively getting challenging and reeling in the player to keep playing until the end, hopefully replaying. I am designing the house which is going to be dark and creepy which keeps the player on their toes. My job is important because it keeps the player playing based on design of levels.
Unit 3 - Pre Production
Pre-Production is important because it sets up everything for the game. Brainstorming and writing stuff on the board is very important because it creates efficiency for creating the actual game. You set everything up with a plan, and it gets everyone on the team on the same page. It also sets the pathway to fully execute an idea, makes sure everyone understands or can help on the idea before putting money and more into the project. It is very time efficient and reduces mistakes for creating games or basically anything.
Planning for user experience is important for targeting audiences. It will help you narrow a decision for your game, based on who you are selling to. We are creating a horror game so we have to set the age recommendation for the game, depending how violent or scary it is. We also set the assets as very detailed to create this realistic feeling. User experience is very important for a person using the game and how it is to be accessed or played.
Creating a UI taught me what I player wants towards navigation. UI sets the overall design of what the player can use while playing the game, and sets up the design and feeling of immersion in game.
Unit 4 - Production Techniques
Working in Unreal Engine has been way easier than Unity. The graphics, textures, and shadows are way more realistic and visually pleasing. Making assets and a overall level is easier but still challenging. Even on the coding side, its easier to make games. Importing and exporting is easy, and the overall experience in making a game is great, but I still had challenges due to my experience.
My role on my team was level designer. I fulfilled my role by designing and making the house for the game. I also help make some assets to give a more realistic touch for the game. I helped by giving a visual representation of what we wanted for the game, a surreal and realistic look. This helped all of my teammates finally put all of their work onto a "canvas" which was the house, such as assets and coding.
